Speakers

Our goal this year, by bringing in numerous diocesan clergy and other speakers, is to allow each conference participant to choose the topics of the small-group presentations and discussions that they attend. We will continue to recruit speakers and discussion leaders throughout the fall. Our keynote speakers are featured below.

This Year's Conference Lineup

Fr. Micah Rector, St. Sebastian

Fr. Micah was born and raised in Michigan, the son of a Methodist pastor. After several years of ministry in Protestant traditions and much study and spiritual seeking, the future Fr. Micah, his wife Stephanie and their two (at the time!) children were received into Holy Orthodoxy at St. Thomas the Apostle Orthodox Church in Springfield, MO on July 2, 2014, the commemoration of St. John of San Francisco.

Following a move back to Michigan and several additional years of study, Fr. Micah graduated from the Pastoral School of the Diocese of Chicago & Mid-America. He was ordained a Deacon on the Feast of the Transfiguration in 2020, and then to the Priesthood on the Feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God that same year. Both ordinations were performed by Archbishop Peter of blessed memory.

Since his ordination to the priesthood Fr. Micah has served as Rector of St. Sebastian Orthodox Church in Traverse City, MI. He has worked as a Social Worker for The Salvation Army since 2019 and currently serves as the Social Services Manager for a Social Services Department that serves a three county area, particularly focusing on care for the unhoused, the addicted, the lonely and those struggling to meet the needs of daily living (utilities, food, etc). He particularly seeks the intercession of St. John of Kronstadt to guide his work.

Fr. Micah is very blessed to share his life with his dear Matushka Stephanie and their seven children: Miriam, Joel, Esther, Simeon, Ezra, Naomi and Vasilia. They keep a small farm with livestock and gardens in a small town near Traverse City. Outside of his work and serving the parish Fr. Micah enjoys watching his children play sports for their school, woodcarving and picking a few notes on the guitar his dad gave to him when he was sixteen.

Some of Father Micah's most beloved Saints are: The Holy Martyr Anastasia of Rome, St. Innocent of Alaska, St. Theophan the Recluse, St. Kosmas Aitolos, St. Nicholas Planas, St. Maria of Paris, St. John of Kronstadt, St. Nektarios of Aegina, St. Nikolai Velimirovich, St. John of San Francisco, St. Joseph the Hesychast and St. Paisios of Mt. Athos. He is also greatly inspired by Blessed Fr. Cosmas of Zaire and Blessed Fr. Seraphim of Platina.

Mother Gabriella is the Abbess of Holy Dormition Monastery (Orthodox Church in America / Romanian Episcopate) in Rives Junction, Michigan. Under her leadership and spiritual direction, the monastery has grown into a vibrant center of liturgical life, community pilgrimage, and pastoral care.
